Fall is in full swing, and while the grass is going dormant, we still have an abundant forage base to sustain grazing until mid-December. We plan to plant our ryegrass around November 15th. However, the lack of recent rain could impact both the planting schedule and the grazing timeline. During this gap, we start utilizing our hay stores, which typically last 2-3 months. Minerals play a crucial role in our winter feeding program, as the nutritional value of grass and hay declines. While we provide free-choice minerals in each pasture year-round, our cattle consume significantly more minerals during this season due to the reduced nutrient content in the grass.
